Fan Favorite Pat Ward Drives Straight To Brewerton Speedway Victory Lane; Still No Repeat Modified Winners in 2019 At The Speedway

Posted Jun 30, 2019 by David

BREWERTON, NY – There is no doubt that Pat Ward from Genoa, NY is one the most popular drivers at the Brewerton Speedway, for that matter anywhere he races behind the wheel of his Gypsum Express, Gypsum Wholesalers, Stadium International Trucks, LJL Kevlar Racing Engines, No. 42p, Bicknell.

Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway Pat Ward would take the lead on lap 28 in the 35-lap feature and from there would outrun teammate Larry Wight and pull into victory lane with loud cheers from the crowd.

A relieved and happy Pat Ward related after his win that he and his team really needed that one after a rough couple races earlier in the week when mechanical gremlins reared their ugly head. He was quick to credit his crew and entire LJL& Gypsum Racing team for never giving up.

Tim Harris would jump out to the early lead in the 35-lap Modified feature and hold the top spot until Ron Davis III carried momentum off the high groove and into the lead on lap 4.

On lap 10 Davis was hooked up and flying, opening a full straightaway lead leaving Roy Bresnahan, Pat Ward, Jimmy Phelps and Jim Witko to battle it out for second on back.

With 15 laps complete Davis was in another zip code out front by over 4 seconds still cruising on the high side of speedway. Ward and Bresnahan raced side-by-side for second and third with Phelps and Larry Wight who started deep in the field showing in the top five.

At the halfway point Davis was on rails still running the topside a straightaway ahead of Ward. Wight, Bresnahan and Phelps raced close for third through fifth.

With 10 laps remaining Davis was starting to see his lead shrink with Ward and Wight rapidly closing in on the leader.

After a quick yellow on lap 26, the whole complexion of the race would change as Ward would blast into the lead on lap 28 with his teammate Wight racing into second on lap 30.

Over the final laps Pat Ward wasn’t going to be denied as he was first under the checkers in front of the cheering crowd. Larry Wight, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker and Ron Davis III finished second through fifth.
