Larry Wight Wins Third Of 2017 At The Brewerton Speedway Friday

Posted Jul 2, 2017 by David

BREWERTON, NY – June 30, 2017 – Mother Nature took a grand slam swing at the Brewerton Speedway Friday but didn’t get the victory. Heavy rains hit the speedway in the late afternoon putting parts of the race track under water. The track crew led by Harvey and Eric Fink refused to throw in the towel and the entire racing program ran on A-Verdi Storage Containers night.

On the speedway “Lightning” and a “Cobra” struck as Larry Wight (Modifieds) and Chuck Hebing (ESS Sprints) took big victories. Alan Fink (Sportsman) and Jeff Sykes (Mod Lites) grabbed feature wins.

In the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature Tim Kerr would lead the early going, opening a half a straightaway lead as the racing behind him was tight for top ten spots.

At the 10-lap point Kerr and Adam Roberts occupied the top two spots while Matt Hulsizer and Larry wight who started mid-pack were in a close battle in the top-five.

A yellow on lap 14 would spell the difference in the race. On the restart Wight went to the extreme outside of the speedway from fourth and drove into the lead.

Another yellow on lap 22 would erase the lead Wight built up. Under yellow top five running Kerr would suddenly slow and stop on the speedway ending his night.

One final caution period would come with 11 laps left giving the field one last shot at Wight. Over the final laps nobody seriously challenged Wight the rest of the way as he grabbed his third win of the year at the “D-Shaped Dirt Demon.” Matt Hulsizer, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker and Chad Phelps finished second through fifth.
