BILLY DECKER GRABS A WIN AND SIXTH PLACE FINISH THURSDAY AT UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY

VERNON, NY July 29, 2010 – Just like Tuesday night when the Lucas Oil Late Model Series and Thunder On The Thruway Modified Series were at Fonda Speedway, the same race card ran Thursday night at the Utica-Rome Speedway. Billy Decker (Gypsum Wholesalers No.91) had the best results in his Late Model and Modified.
In the Late Model 50 lap A-Main Decker backed up his 5th place finish at Fonda with a 6th place run at Utica-Rome against the touring series best. Larry Wight (Gypsum Express No.99L) just missed the A-Main finishing 7th in the Hawk Brake B-Main.
In the 50 lap Modified feature, Decker started 11th and worked his way to 2nd place on lap 28 and then set his sights on race leader Stewart Friesen. On lap 34 Decker showed his nose to Friesen but couldn’t find the speed to get by. One lap later Friesen tried to protect his lead, this allowed the middle to open up and Decker powered by Friesen and then onto the win.
Larry Wight finished just outside the top-ten in eleventh. Pat Ward (Gypsum Express No.42p) was involved in an incident that was reported that could have been a lot worse. On lap 24 on the back straight, Ward got crossed up that left him sitting against the wall. Everyone missed him except Chris Busta who couldn’t see Ward as he made heavy contact with Ward ending his night.
Track announcer Mike Mallett spoke with Billy Decker after his win. “We have been struggling as of late. The last couple races I think we have found a little something that is working for us, really looking forward to doing some more racing.”
On his battle with Stewart Friesen for the race win, “Stew being the leader, I think the race line changed on him. I was fortunate to be in 2nd and find a groove before he did. I got to be in the middle, and again the Gypsum Wholesalers car was really good. I can’t thank John (Wight) LJL Racing, Scott and all the guys for really working hard on it.”
When asked if his 6th place Late Model finish helped with the Modified who’s feature ran last? “Those cars are Greek compared to these cars (Modifieds) I’m getting a little old so I get wore out instead of sharpen up,” Decker said with a laugh. “I really think things are looking up.”
Thursday night Tim Fuller (Gypsum Express No.19) finished 11th at Sharon Speedway in Ohio in the World Of Outlaws Late Model Series A-Main. Tonight July 30th Fuller will be in action at the Attica Raceway Park in Ohio.
It looks to be a rain free weekend ahead starting tonight July 30th at the Brewerton Speedway and tomorrow night July 31st at the Fulton Speedway for the Gypsum Race Team. Sunday will see Ryan Phelps (Big Red Towing No.99) and Larry Wight at Cayuga County Fair Speedway while Pat Ward will be at Utica-Rome Speedway.
Don’t forget Tuesday night August, 3rd the World Of Outlaws Sprint Car Series will be at Fulton Speedway. If you have never seen the series on the Fulton high banks you owe it to yourself to attend. Tickets will be on sale at both Brewerton and Fulton Speedway’s this weekend.
