PHOENIX, NY November 8th 2009 By Dave Medler The Gypsum Race Team had mixed results this past weekend as the 2009 season comes to an end.
Tim Fuller (Gypsum Express No.19) was down at the World Finals behind the wheel of his World Of Outlaws Late Model. On Thursday night rough track conditions and injures dominated the night to the point they had to postpone the racing for a day.
In the interests of the fans and competitors, we decided that the best course of action was to postpone the Topless Showdown feature event to Thursday night, said Seamus Curley, the short-track racing manager at Lowe's Motor Speedway. We battled the track conditions all night, and with curfew being an issue we just didn't have enough time to get the surface right.
Fuller got hit with a huge flying clump of clay causing facial injuries mainly to his nose. Fuller was on Speed Channel last night and reported he was doing okay and just needed time to heal.
Battling his injuries he had finishes of, 28th (14 laps completed), 17th and 13th on Saturday night. In the final season points Fuller finished 4th in the points with 7 wins, 17 top 5s, 24 top 10s and only finished 80 points behind Champion Josh Richards.
Pat Ward (Gypsum Express No.42p) and Billy Decker (Gypsum Wholesalers No.91) returned to the Orange County Speedway Saturday for the running of the Eastern Sates 200 that was rained out back in October. Decker completed all 200 laps on tough day time conditions finishing in ninth. Ward ran into problems completing 110 laps coming home twenty-sixth.
The best finish of the weekend for the team came from Larry Wight (Gypsum Express No.91L) Larry ventured down to Black Rock Speedway with his Small Block for the Big Block-Small Block Shootout.
Wight brought home a solid 2nd place finish. He was in the battle for the win right down to the checkers. Wight lead lap-3,laps 10-18 and chased winner Ron Cartwright across the line in the 30-lap feature.
After a quick ride north after the Eastern States 200 Pat Ward was honored at the Turning Stone Casino for his 2nd straight Utica-Rome Speedway Modified Track Championship.
In the next few days look for a story about Pat and his 2009 season that gained him the above Championship and his 3rd straight DART Dirt Race Of Champions Modified Tour Title.
